Spring news from Sage Gallery and Sage Place
Hello Sage Friends

Hope the Summer is finding you having some fun with family and friends!

We've been enjoying the visits of out of town guests here at Sage Place; it's always nice to see the return of our friends from across the states and hear what our customers from out of the country have been up to as well. We always look forward to seeing everyone's works of art when they return, so keep the "show and tell" coming our way; you all inspire us to be more creative each day!

Sas Colby tops the charts! Sas will be joining us once again this September 21-22 for a two day intensive workshop, exploring the range of inspirations, emotions and improvisations possible in art. Whether you are new to the arts, or a seasoned creator, SAS WILL INSPIRE YOU and help you move your work forward in ways you didn't know possible! Sas puts on hands-on experiential workshops in places like Taos, NM and Majorca, Spain, so it's a treat to have her travel to the Northwest and join us back at Sage. Workshop times are 10-4. Tuition for this two day treat is $225 and includes all materials and lunch! Registration deadline is Sept. 1st and there are just a few spaces available. Call us for information or registration (541) 329-0303. Be sure to see some of the images from Sas' class on our website.

June and July were packed with travel and events for me personally and our studio was filled with all kinds of back to back activities. We jumped into Summer by welcoming Bandon Police Chief Bob Webb, who spoke to merchants about Business Safety and Awareness topics, and we thank the City, Greater Bandon Association, Bandon Chamber of Commerce, and local merchants for their contributions and sponsorship of this event. Hopefully this will be the first of many great gatherings that bring our business friends together.

OUR ARTISTIC FRIENDS came together as well, bringing to life some exceptional projects in our Spring and Summer workshops this year. Students in our Rivet and Resin classes created outstanding pendants; the Viking Knit and Chain Maille classes had awe inspiring pieces fabricated by both new and returning students and, as always, Donna Wright's "Poured Watercolor Techniques" class was a HUGE Success.

In fact, students loved Donna's class so much they coaxed her into doing a Collage Workshop, and it's coming up soon - Saturday, August 25th! There's still room to join Donna as she covers, not only collage and composition, but also "Pouring with ACRYLICS", creating butcher paper and tissue filters for atmospheric effects, adding texture with a palette knife and much much more! The collage workshop runs from 1-4 and earlier in the day, from 11-1, Donna will be at Sage for a booksigning. Donna's painting, "Coyote Moon" now has a permanent place on the back cover of "Splash 13" just published by North Light Books and the original is hanging in the studio at Sage! Prints are also available. Be sure to check out our website for Donna's workshop information and some great pictures of student work from her workshop and more! www.sageplacebandon.com

Following the frenzy of early July activity, Sage welcomed Jaime and Guy, of Wild Things Beads, once again for a fabulous Trunk Show, Carolene Doss joined us again, from Idaho, for an information packed workshop in glass, and Roxanne Evans Stout from the Klammath Falls area just left after teaching an exceptional workshop in mixed media and hand crafted books! Roxanne's workshop images can be seen on our new Facebook page; you'll find us by doing a Facebook search for Sage Place Bandon. This is a new venue for us and it's all still new to me, so be sure to share your comments and hopefully hit that "Like" button to help us get it going! We're excited that Roxanne will join us again, next Spring for two workshops in mixed media; keep checking in for info and dates!

ANOTHER GREAT AUGUST Workshop on its way...

Sherri is scheduled for an upcoming "Viking Knit" for beginners, or repeat Viking Knit lovers. Her class is Friday, August 24th and we still have some room. Sherri is fun! fun! fun! and really knows this technique; it's a class you won't want to miss. Sherri is one of our students' favorite metals instructors, who taught a great metal etchings workshop, a resin class, with us early in the summer and will be scheduling more this fall. Call us at (541) 329 - 0303 for details, or check out the information online.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT...We opened the doors to our new location, here on 11th, TWO YEARS ago, Sept. 1st! I still remember the stress of the weeks before, while Gerry and friends hurried to get the furnishings in place and Dana held down the fort at our old First St. location, Kathy and I sat at Sage many nights, until nearly midnight, getting our inventory labeled and ready for display. And there's no surprise in a Deja vu moment, we've been madly checking in new beads and styles once again! Just in today, 200 colors of Delica 11/0; we hope to have them all up by the end of next week. In the meantime, we have several BEAD SPECIALS going on through October. This week we are showing off our new "Berry Beads", a friendly little peanut shaped bead that can be dressed up or down; they are now 20% off for just a short time!

In honor of our Anniversary, Sage will be having some fantastic sales on glass, seed beads, and tools. Keep an eye out for our announcement; we'll be filling the classroom for a mini trunk show of our own!

Workshops and Activities will be in full swing again, beginning in October. We are expecting Musa for a Trunk Show of African beads the first week and have many classes in the planning stages. Catherine will be joining us for another kelp basket workshop, Robin will be teaching a workshop in glass "pocket vases", metal forging, wire wrapping, beading, and cold-joining classes will be offered and Open Studio sessions will begin again in Mid October. Get your Fall designs ready!

WE THANK the Confederated Tribes in Florence for welcoming us into their beautiful Tribal Outreach Center and allowing us to participate in with Wild Things Beads in their trunk show at the end of July. It is a truly lovely space and it was a delight to meet some new friends in the Florence area.

WE ALSO SAY THANKS AND A TEARFUL GOODBYE...to several of our cherished healthcare providers who have so kindly cared for us all at Southern Coos Hospital. You will be dearly missed and your service and professionalism over the years has been greatly appreciated. We know some of you are leaving the area and we want you to know that we have truly enjoyed you as our customers, consider you friends, and hope you will keep in touch. Best of Luck!

AND SEND OUR CONGRATULATIONS TO...Jim and Donna Owens, of Port Orford for the celebration of 50 YEARS together!! Sage Place was honored by your request to create stained glass gifts in commemoration of this special event and WE WISH YOU MANY MORE YEARS OF LOVE AND HAPPINESS.

See you all soon at Sage; Happy Sunshine! Anne, Kathy, Gerry, and Dana
