The Art of Adornment: Jewelry as Personal Expression

Juried Exhibition

SAGE Gallery
390 First Street SW, Suite 2D
Bandon, Oregon, 97411
October 1, 2010—November 6, 2010

"The Art of Adornment: Jewelry as Personal Expression" is a look into the human desire to adorn itself and the intricate connection this process has with our self perceptions, economies, and sense of placement within our surroundings. The decade of the 1990's witnessed extremes of wealth in the United States, paired with an affinity for lavish jewelry styles, inspired by such thriving ancient cultures as Byzantium and Renaissance Europe. Twenty years later, following extreme shifts in the economic, political and social arenas, the need to adorn still fuels our creative energy and drives us to define ourselves in new aesthetic directions.

SAGE Gallery's call to artists for our juried jewelry exhibition challenges artisans working in a variety of media to reflect upon the styles of predecessors and define new directions in the design and fabrication of jewelry as personal expression in the Twenty-First century.
